DMTL - The Race Is On!

In previous years, the team at DMTL have worked together to take on some challenging escape rooms, breathed in the sea air on group fishing trips and many more group activities (usually with an element of competition...)

This year, the team decided to test their driving skills in a Grand Prix style Go-Kart race!

The Format

Firstly, the team took part in some practice laps to learn the circuit and get to grips with the kart before moving onto qualifying which is all about the fastest lap, just like in Formula 1 it only takes a touch of magic on one lap to take pole position.

The race will start out on the grid with an endurance style sprint to the chequered flag, where the aim is to hang to first place or risk the glory being snatched from you by your competitors. At the end of your Grand Prix it’s capped off with a trophy presentation for the top 3 drivers over on the podium.

Qualifying Results

The qualifying saw the drivers get to grips with the track and really start to improve their times ready for the race. Pete, who had raced on the track many, many times before, saw his track knowledge advantage reduce with every completed lap.

The qualifying results, that determined the grid order, were as follows:

  • 1 - Pete
  • 2 - Robert P
  • 3 - Rob L
  • 4 - Patrick
  • 5 - Liam
  • 6 - Ellie
  • 7 - Karen
  • 8 - Eliot
  • 9 - Becca
Race Results

The grid start was chaotic and saw some fantastic driving skill from Rob as he countered a defensive play from Robert P with a swift overtake of both Robert and Patrick to obtain second place by the end of the first lap. Unfortunately, the time lost in the melee was enough for an experienced Pete to generate a substantial lead from the chasing pack.

At the other end of the grid, Rebecca's determined effort had propelled her from 9th into 8th following a swift overtake of an Eliot still trying to find his feet in a fast kart.

That didn't last long though as Eliot's times began to consistently improve, proving that the more laps you do, the faster you become and someone who has raced many, many times on the track before would have a clear advantage over others.

As the race moved on, small mini races began to develop with Liam, Ellie and Karen generating a competitive pack behind the front 4 and just in front of that, Patrick and Robert consistently trading 3rd and 4th place throughout the mid section of the race.

Inevitably, the front 4 began to lap the pursuing drivers which lead to an incident involving Robert and Ellie that saw Robert being called to the pits to receive some driver training. This allowed Patrick to overtake him and sit comfortably in 3rd place and allowed Ellie some time to show off her drifting skills to some other drivers.

After a fantastic race, the results were as follows:

  • 1 - Pete
  • 2 - Rob L
  • 3 - Patrick
  • 4 - Robert P
  • 5 - Liam
  • 6 - Ellie
  • 7 - Karen
  • 8 - Eliot
  • 9 - Becca
